Pre-Congress Workshops

This workshop will begin by providing an overview of differing trends across continents that are evident in the teaching of school physical education, including

1. comprehensive school physical activity programme (CSPAP),
2. curriculum and instructional models,
3. health and physical education,
4. health and wellbeing.

Similarities and differences between the general aims of physical education in each jurisdiction will then be shared, noting that there is a definitive number and foci of aims for school physical education that are shared internationally. To conclude, physical education the post-primary school curriculum in (Republic of) Ireland will be shared to illustrate the enactment of a range of philosophies and aims for school physical education.

Pregnancy is a special stage of life that causes many morphological, physiological, biomechanical and psychological changes in the woman’s body. The pregnancy period is an open window for a lifestyle change, including engagement in an exercise program. Trustworthy and comprehensive guidelines created on the basis of international and interdisciplinary initiatives should be disseminated among all interested in prenatal physical activity: pregnant women and their families, obstetric care providers and exercise professionals to enable them effective cooperation and to globally promote exercise in pregnancy. They should be taken into account in the planning of the intensity, frequency, duration and type of exercise. The exercise program needs to be individualized in accordance with the woman’s skills, abilities and preference and the exercise technique should be modified as the pregnancy proceeds. Consequently, it is important to update the evidence-based knowledge and the guidelines for exercise prescription during the different phases of pregnancy, as well as the contents of an appropriate educational program for exercise professionals acting with this special population. This workshop will draw on the updated guidelines for exercise during pregnancy; the evidence-based exercise testing and prescription; the evidence-based adaptations of an exercise program and practice; and the contents of an appropriate educational program for exercise professionals.

RealTrack Systems SL has provided the player monitoring technology through the WIMU PRO System for the Mexican Project. The Mexican Project involves the strategic decision of the Mexican Football Federation to implement the WIMU PRO system in the 18 football clubs of La Liga MX, the 15 football clubs of La Liga Ascenso, 33 Football Referees and the 8 National Football Teams. The presentation will explore the synergies and advancements that Mexican Football has achieved through the use of the WIMU PRO System.

Research into motor learning and control has advanced our knowledge of the physical and cognitive processes involved in the acquisition of motor competence. This provides an excellent opportunity to develop a strong theoretical underpinning for primary school Physical Education (PE) and a better explanation of why children do, or do not, improve their motor competence. The first half of this workshop will introduce attendees to nonlinear pedagogy. Nonlinear pedagogy is a contemporary, innovative approach to primary school PE that emphasises the interactions between key factors related to each individual child, the task and environment when learning motor skills. Attendees will learn about the theory of ecological dynamics and how this shapes not only the key principles of nonlinear pedagogies, but also the wider ramifications for how teachers should view, and make decisions, around curriculum design, teaching and learning and assessment within PE. The second half of the workshop will see delegates participate in a nonlinear pedagogy gymnastics lesson designed for 5 and 6 year old children.

The demographic conditions that the society has been attending, entail diverse problems. As one of the main public health concerns, there is a high association between aging and obesity, nutritional deficiencies and physical (in)activity. Thus, cartilage-related diseases are on the list of major concerns of the World Health Organization, with the prevention of joint cartilage degeneration as an important issue for which there are few effective solutions. It is imperative to find preventive strategies that can promote a decrease in the incidence of chronic osteoarthritis. At this workshop we will purpose a methodology that focuses on the application of physical exercise, at land-based and aquatic environment, considering the limitations of individuals with osteoarthrosis. The proposal was developed taking into account the approach of a complex intervention, using:

• literature;
• exercise physiologists with specialization in personal training;
• in the intervention with practitioners with diagnosis of osteoarthrosis; and (iv) health professionals. The programs are based on training sessions lasting from 30 to 45 minutes, 3 times a week.

Warming should focus on awareness of body alignment, joint mobility and breathing. The fundamental part is based on exercises that combine the cardiorespiratory component with the force component, promoting a progressive joint amplitude. At the end of each session there is a progressive decrease of the load, alternating body segments. As a result of the expected adaptations, a 12-week program is proposed, subdivided into 3 parts of 4 weeks each. Our proposal aims to be a tool to implement a healthy behaviour, based on a physical exercise program to prevent osteoarthrosis. With a demographic trend towards an aging population, society has now drifted into a vicious cycle over the proven relationship between osteoarthritis and obesity, and the increased prevalence of both. To contribute to the resolution of these problems, it is imperative to have integrated and multidisciplinary perspectives and intervention approaches that promote a motivating and lasting activity.

The use of complementary training in a gym allow football players to increase efficiciency and robustness and to decrease the injury risk. That is, it allows to increase structural resilience and promote neural adaptations of players to the efforts of the training and specially of the game. However, to achieve such results day by day in a club there is a need to develop an individualized approach in a limited time schedule. The use of flywheel combined with some dynamometry and other tools allow to prescribe and monitor the training in the gym and to evaluate the possible transfer of such results to the field. In this workshop we will explore the method of intervention used in a football team based on the use of devices developed by Neuroexcellence company. The session will combine a theoretical and a pratical approach.
